Christmas 2011

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

We are enjoying our annual tradition of gift giving. We made 2 1/2 big batches of Russian Tea (36 half pints and 24 pints!) and we re-vamped our "fan gloves" into cozy snowmen with Bath and Body soaps and lotions.

Each one with our signature label.........

They looked so cute all lined up ready to go!

Yummy Bath and Body flavors this year: Gingerbread, Apple, Ribbon Candy, and Peppermint!

And here are just a few of the jars of Russian Tea....

Project Waterfall Dresser!

While Mandy was gone to Cali, we decided to refinish an old Waterfall dresser for her room--a fun place for a high school girl to sit and get ready for school each day. We had fun working on it for her, and must admit, we like the refinishing biz! We'll see where it takes us!

Here's the find---a neighbor was selling it and we happened by one day. I had remembered Aunt Rene had one down in her basement. I loved the idea of having a big vanity for Mandy and had told Bear if he ever saw one, to let me know. One day, on his way home, he spotted this sitting out in a yard. He came home and said I think she's selling one of those dressers you want. Sure thing! It has been sitting in the shop for a couple of years. We finally got to it, and it turned out even better than I imagined!

The poor old beauty needed a little TLC, her handles were broken, veneer peeling, etc., but in her day, she was brilliant!

The bench seat was wobbly, but Bear used some L brackets and reinforced it.

Here's the first coat of wonderful creamy grey, green, bluish, white!

Followed by a layer of Mandy's favorite shade of hot lime green and some distressing....

still not enough contrast for me, so a layer of stain.

Then the idea to do the drawers the bright green.

Here's my favorite drawer! It's that top middle one.

Some fun new hardware and shelf lining for the drawers.....

Kind of a green and white paisley print--kind of fun!

And........the finished product!

Here's the seat cushion---cute polka dots.

Finally....with the big mirror mounted on the back! A great place for a high school girl to get ready every morning---notice the mega power strip for all hair accessories, etc.!

Berries!

It has almost been a year since I've added to this blog--where does the time go? My recovery process is going well, and I'm back in the email, FB and Blogger saddle again, hoping I'll be able to get out and enjoy some sunshine, if it ever finds Idaho!

Meanwhile, I'm doing a bit of berry research for my niece---here ya go Maylee! Happy Berry Picking!

Soon it will be that wonderful berry picking season!

Huckleberries!

Blueberries!

Strawberries

Blackberries!

Here are some ideas for berry pickers! Great Ice Pop recipe---
what to do with the mush at the bottom of the berry bowl!

Oat can or recycled container with fabric necklace tied on

More buckets...

Here's a clever idea for an almost spill proof huckleberry or blueberry picker

This is what I remember---cut out milk jugs with ties that went around our waists---sure wish I had a picture of me and your mom to put on here---wouldn't that be a hoot!

Here's another clever idea!

Here's a great recipe for those berries at the bottom that are still full of flavor, but smashed:
Just add enough fruit juice (apple or other) to make it easy to pour into your pop molds. Freeze and enjoy!
